Common questions

Everything you'd want to ask.

What exactly are you offering?

We buy life insurance policies from owners age 65 and over at a published formula: twice the verified cash surrender value in cash, or four times it as a death benefit your beneficiaries keep while we pay every future premium — or half of each. Your insurer's verified value sets the final numbers.

Who qualifies?

Insureds age 65 or older, at least $100,000 of death benefit after any loans, a policy at least two years old, and a permanent policy with cash value (universal, guaranteed universal, indexed universal or whole life). We can't purchase variable or group policies, or term policies without cash value. Availability depends on your state.

How much will I get?

The formula, applied to the cash surrender value your insurer confirms in writing. A policy with a $25,000 cash surrender value pays $50,000 in cash, or leaves $100,000 to your family with no more premiums. If the verified value comes back more than 15% below what you entered, you can cancel at no cost.

How long does it take?

Your offers appear in about 90 seconds and you can sign the same day. Your insurer typically verifies the policy in 3–7 business days. Cash is released from escrow within 3 business days after the insurer acknowledges the transfer.

What happens to my beneficiaries?

With Cash Now, we become the beneficiary. With Protect Your Legacy or Cash + Legacy, your insurer pays the retained amount directly to the people you name, and we are responsible for every premium.

Is the money taxable?

It can be. Proceeds above the premiums you've paid may be taxable, and a sale can affect creditor claims and eligibility for public assistance such as Medicaid. We can't give tax advice; the agreement includes the disclosures your state requires and we encourage you to get your own advice.

Can I change my mind?

Yes. You can cancel for at least 15 days after receiving proceeds, as your state requires, and everything is returned. You're also not obligated until the insurer verifies the policy and you receive the final written figures.

Is my information kept confidential?

Your information is used only to verify and purchase the policy. It is never sold.

Estimates are preliminary and based on the information you enter. Final amounts are determined by the net cash surrender value verified by your insurer. Offers require the policy to be in force, past any contestability period, and free of ownership or beneficiary disputes. Selling a policy can affect taxes, creditor claims and eligibility for public assistance such as Medicaid; you should consider alternatives, including keeping the policy, reducing coverage, a policy loan, or an accelerated death benefit.
